Gabriel Fabre

Gabriel Fabre (born February 20, 1774 in Vannes , † May 12, 1858 in Laval ) was a French Général de division of the infantry .

Life

Fabre was a son of Joseph Marie Fabre, who was an ardent supporter of the revolution until the reign of terror began .

An avid supporter of Napoleon , Fabre joined the revolutionary army at an early age . He soon made a career for himself and stood next to Régis Barthélemy Mouton-Duvernet under the command of General Jacques François Dugommier during the siege of Toulon in 1793 .

In 1796/97 Fabre took part in the Italian campaign and was able to distinguish himself through bravery. After further promotions, he joined General Louis-Gabriel Suchet's staff and was posted to the war in Spain .

As a general of the infantry, Fabre took part in the Russian campaign. He fought at Borodino (September 7, 1812) and Vyasma (November 3, 1812) and was seriously wounded in the latter. He returned to France and subsequently only performed administrative tasks. During Napoleon's " Rule of the Hundred Days " he no longer joined him and remained in office during the Restoration . From 1819 he also worked as a member of parliament.

On November 1, 1826, he was of King Charles X of the honorary title of Lieutenant-général awarded.

Fabre was not active in the July Revolution of 1830 , nor did he officially support the July Monarchy . In 1848 he gave up all offices, retired into private life and settled in Laval. Gabriel Fabre died on May 12, 1858 at the age of 84 and was also buried there.
