Régis Barthélemy Mouton-Duvernet

Régis Barthélemy Mouton-Duvernet (born May 3, 1770 in Le Puy-en-Velay , † July 27, 1816 in Lyon ) was a French general de division of the infantry .

Life

At 15, Mouton-Duvernet became a cadet in the royal army and served mostly in the French colonies . In 1789 he was stationed in Guadeloupe ( Lesser Antilles ) for some time .

Under the command of General Jacques François Dugommier , Mouton-Duvernet took part in the siege of Toulon in 1793. After further promotions he got his own command under Napoleon and took part in his Italian campaign in 1793/97 . In the Battle of Arcole (November 15-17, 1796) he was able to distinguish himself together with Pascal Antoine Fiorella through bravery.

He was promoted to Général de brigade and as such he fought in Spain, in the war against the Spanish resistance movement .

Later Mouton-Duvernet took part in other battles of the coalition wars. In the battle of Dresden (August 26/27, 1813) he was shot down and taken prisoner of war. After the Battle of Paris (March 30, 1814) and the Treaty of Fontainebleau , Mouton-Duvernet was able to return to France.

When Napoleon left the island of Elba and his " rule of the hundred days " began, Mouton-Duvernet rejoined the emperor. After a few more administrative tasks, he represented the Haute-Loire department as a member of parliament.

Mouton-Duvernet was sentenced to death on July 15, 1816 by a court martial and despite a petition for clemency by his wife to King Louis XVIII. on July 27, 1816 at the Quai des Étroits in Lyon ( 5th arrondissement ) executed . He died at the age of 46 and found his final resting place on the Cimetière de Loyasse of Lyons.
