Gabriel Osorio Vargas (* 1984 in Quinta Normal ) is a Chilean animator and film director .

Life

Osorio studied painting from 2002 to 2005 and graphic design from 2004 at the Universidad de Chile , specializing in 3D animation. After completing his studies, he initially worked in advertising and television. Osorio founded the film studio Punkrobot in 2008 and worked as a director in the field of children's television, among other things. Since 2009 he has been teaching animation at the Universidad de las Américas .

From 2009 Osorio worked on his first short film Bear Story , for which he was inspired by the story of his grandfather Leopold Osorio. The work on the computer-animated film took two years to complete and, with interruptions, dragged on for a total of five years. Bear Story premiered in June 2014 at the Festival d'Animation Annecy ; Osorio received the Oscar in the category Best Animated Short Film in 2016 for the film .
