Gabriele Dönig-Poppensieker

Gabriele Dönig-Poppensieker (born June 7, 1959 in Bochum ) is a German politician (formerly SPD ).

Life

Dönig-Poppensieker obtained secondary school leaving certificate in Bochum in 1975 and then completed an apprenticeship as an office assistant. She then worked for the Deutsche Bundespost in Dortmund and made up her Abitur at the evening grammar school. She graduated from the University of Dortmund with a degree in engineering. After her legal clerkship , she became a department head in Werdohl in 1996 before moving to Syke . In 1999 she became a Senator and First Deputy Mayor of Greifswald .

In 2006, Dönig-Poppensieker was a candidate for the SPD, Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and FWG in the election for District Warendorf District Administrator , in which she was defeated by CDU candidate Olaf Gericke with 39.5 percent of the vote .

In 2007 she ran for the office of Lord Mayor of Filderstadt . It prevailed in the second ballot with 57.14 percent. On March 19, 2012, Dönig-Poppensieker announced that she was leaving the SPD. The trigger was a dispute between her and the SPD parliamentary group over the filling of a secretary position at the local Eduard-Spranger-Gymnasium.

After eight years, she ran for a second term as mayor on July 5, 2015. In the first ballot, she lost 32.9 percent to her CDU challenger Christoph Traub , who achieved an absolute majority with 50.97 percent.
