Gabriele Manca

Gabriele Manca (* 1957 in Sassari ) is an Italian composer.

Life

Manca studied piano with Bruno Canino and composition with Giacomo Manzoni at the Conservatorio di Milano until 1982 . He was the piano accompanist of Cathy Berberian , worked for the RAI and the Teatro alla Scala and was one of the founding members of the electronic music studio Musica Musicisti e Tecnologie (MM&T). He is also an employee of the Centro Ricerche Musica e Sperimentazione (CERM).

Manca's compositions have been recognized at international festivals for contemporary music (including the Holland Festival , Musica nel Nostro Tempo, Pontino Festival, Ars Musica Bruxelles, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Society for New Music Hannover, the Darmstadt Summer Courses, Nuovi Incontri Musicali di Milano, Biennale di Barcellona) and in 1985 he was one of the winners of the New Generation in Europe competition.

Since 1999 he has given seminars, master classes and concerts in Tokyo . In 2000 he received the Japan Foundation Uchida grant and composed the music for the film by director Chiseko Tanaka Rokurobyoe , which was shown at the Art Film Festival in Bratislava and the 2001 Tokyo Film Festival .
