Gabriele Marwede

Gabriele Marwede (* 1925 ) is a German sculptor.

life and career

Gabriele Marwede studied from 1946 to 1950 at the Werkkunstschule Hannover , then until 1953 at the Technical University of Hannover . As early as 1951 she won the Young Art Prize in Lower Saxony . In 1961 she spent a scholarship at the Deutsche Akademie Villa Massimo in Rome. In 1962 she was awarded the Lower Saxony Art Prize .

In 1982 she was appointed to the federal purchasing commission for the years 1982 to 1985, in 1983 she received the Lower Saxony artist grant. As a full member of the German Association of Artists , she took part in numerous large annual DKB exhibitions from the 5th annual exhibition in Hanover until 1991 - in 1955 still under the name Gabriele Wolff-Marwede and since 1979 she has been a member of the New Group in Munich.

Gabriele Marwede was married to Joachim Wolff . She lives and works in Springe .

Works

Works in sacred spaces as well as large outdoor sculptures were created by her. She created the crucifix on the altar of the Martin Luther Church in Ehlershausen . The altar cross in the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Church in Hamburg's Oldenfelde district is her work. In 1986 the sculpture Signs of Galilei was created , which stands in front of the Karlsruhe Nuclear Research Center (now KIT ). Due to a competition in 1989 she was commissioned to design the memorial for the victims of the Nazi justice system . The memorial stands in front of the German Judges Academy in Trier . The approximately 1.80 m high monument consists of a bronze head on a shell-lime base.
