politics

Potthast became involved in the women's movement in 1979, joined the state women's working group in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1982 and also joined the “The Greens” party in the same year. In the federal election one year later, she was elected to the Bundestag via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia. There she was deputy parliamentary director until October 25, 1983. She was also represented as a full member of the Committee on Labor and Social Affairs. Due to the previously agreed rotation of MPs by the Greens, in which the MPs elected to the Bundestag voluntarily resigned halfway through their term of office in order to allow the party's subsequent list candidates to move in, Potthast left the Bundestag on April 3, 1985. Her successor was Ludger Volmer .
