SonoSite is an American medical technology company and the world's leading supplier of portable ultrasound devices . Headquartered near Seattle, the company is represented worldwide through ten offices and a sales network in over 75 countries.

Origins

SonoSite was created in 1998 as a spin-off from ATL Ultrasound Inc. from an initiative originally launched in 1996 by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop a mobile ultrasound device for use in war zones. In May 1999, SonoSite launched its first product, the SonoSite 180 for interdisciplinary imaging .

SonoSite won the renowned Good Design Award 2006 for the MicroMaxx system in Japan and the iF Product Design Award 2008 for the new S series in Hanover . The devices in the S series have also been nominated for the 2009 design award.

Trivia

The company's systems are used in television series such as B. Emergency Room - See the emergency room or Doctor's Diary in clinical use.

At the headquarters of the German branch in Erlangen , SonoSite also operated a TrainingCenter for ultrasound workshops for interested doctors until 2011.

On December 15, 2011, the acquisition by Fujifilm was announced.
