Gabriele Schopenhauer (born September 2, 1951 in Eutin ) is a politician ( SPD ).

Career

Schopenhauer is a graduate of the Ernestinian School and since 2008 chairwoman of the Lübeck citizenship with the official title " City President " and thus the highest representative of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck according to the Lübeck city constitution of April 13, 1946 . The office of the mayor of Lübeck, which exists alongside the city president , has been the head of the city administration since 1950 - unlike in most other German cities.

Schopenhauer has been a member of the SPD since 1988 and has been a member of the Lübeck citizenship since 1998. There she was active in numerous committees, such as the School and Sports Committee, the Committee for Culture and Monument Preservation, the Youth Welfare Committee and the School Principal Election Committee. She was elected to office on June 26, 2008 at the constituent meeting of the new Lübeck citizenship. She succeeded Peter Sünnenwold (CDU), who was elected Deputy Mayor.

The only woman in the office of mayor was Ingeborg Sommer (SPD) from 1986 to 1990 .
