Gabriele Smekal

Gabriele Smekal (born December 19, 1952 in Vienna ) is an Austrian table tennis player . She took part in two world championships.

Career

Smekal was sponsored by Trude Pritzi . At the age of twelve she became the Austrian master student. Two years later she won the youth championship. In 1969 and 1971 she won the Austrian individual title among adults. She won several times in mixed with Heinz Schlueter . In November 1971 she was first in the ÖTTV ranking tournament without defeat. With the women's team from UKJ Tyrolia Vienna, she played in the state league.

Smekal was nominated twice for a world championship. In 1969 she reached 21st place with the Austrian women's team in Munich, and in 1971 in Nagoya, Japan 14th place. Even in the individual competitions she never came close to medal ranks. In 1972 she took part in the European Championship .

Private

Her father Karl Smekal was President of the Austrian Table Tennis Association .
