Gabriella Wirth

Gabriella Wirth (born July 5, 1971 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian table tennis player . At the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s, it was among the best in Europe.

Left-handed Gabriella Wirth came to table tennis at the age of six. She joined the Statisztika Budapest association. In 1986 she won three titles at the European Schools Championship, namely in singles, doubles (with Judit Marosi) and with the team. A year later she won the singles and doubles competition again (with Vivien Ello).

At the European Youth Championships she won titles in doubles with Agnes Hegedus in 1988 and singles in 1989, doubles with her sister Veronika and with the team. In 1989, she took first place in the European ranking tournament Europe TOP-12 .

Adults

Gabriella Wirth caused a sensation for the first time in 1990 when she was nominated as a substitute for the ranking tournament Europe TOP-12 and won this tournament straight away. A year later she reached second place behind Mirjam Hooman .

From 1988 to 1992 she was represented at three European championships . In 1990 she was European champion in doubles with Csilla Bátorfi and with the Hungarian team. She was twice European runner-up, in 1990 in mixed with Jean-Michel Saive and in 1992 in doubles (with Csilla Bátorfi) (despite months of depressive illness).

In 1989, 1991 and 1995 she took part in world championships . In 1991 she reached the quarter-finals in doubles.

Private

Gabriella Wirth has a sister named Veronika who is one year younger than her, who achieved some success in European competitions in the late 1980s.
