Gabrielle Goodman

Gabrielle Goodman (* 1964 in Baltimore ) is an American modern jazz singer .

Goodman sang in gospel choirs as a child before studying at the Peabody Conservatory in her hometown. She initially performed with her brothers, but also worked with Gary Bartz and Norman Connors . Since 1985 she has worked as an accompanist for Roberta Flack , with whom she made a guest appearance at the 1992 Newport Jazz Festival . In 1993 she was on an Asian tour with Chaka Khan . She then began a solo career, playing her first albums with musicians such as Gary Thomas , Kevin Eubanks , Mulgrew Miller and Terri Lyne Carrington and performed at the 1994 Montreux Jazz Festival . Furthermore, she was in a duo with Wolfgang Muthspiel and on the Broadway tour "Forever Swing" and appeared as a guest soloist with the Boston Pops .

Goodman, who also works as a singing teacher and is a professor at Berklee College of Music , received the ASCAP Award for her text for the Chaka Khan hit "You Can Make the Story Right" .
