Gadient Engi

Gadient Engi (born December 13, 1881 in Chur , † May 19, 1945 in Riehen ) was a Swiss chemist.

Engi studied chemistry at the ETH Zurich from 1899 and at the University of Geneva from 1903 , where he received his doctorate in 1904. He then worked for the Gesellschaft für Chemische Industrie Basel ( Ciba ), where he became head of the patent department, was granted power of attorney in 1914 , became vice director in 1916 and director in 1918. In 1924 he became a member of the Board of Directors and in 1928 its Vice-President. In 1944 he retired.

He developed dyes from the indigo class (Cibarosa B, Cibablau 2 B, Indigo Yellow 3 G, Indigo Black B) and the chromium complex dyes of the Neolane and stimulated the development of the cyanuric chloride dyes (Cibanonee, Chloranthine).
