Gagnoa
Coordinates: 6 ° 8 ′ N , 5 ° 57 ′ W
Gagnoa is an Ivorian city, the capital of the Fromager region and the capital of the Gagnoa department of the same name . The city is also the core area of the Bété ethnic group .
According to the 2014 census, the city has 160,465 inhabitants.
Gagnoa is a stronghold of Yacoubisten, the followers of Tijaniyyah -Scheichs Yacouba Sylla . He founded a Zāwiya , a center for Sufi practices , here in 1939 . In 1955, during an uprising against the Dioula , a group of the Bété tried to destroy the building complex.
