The airport Isparta Suleyman Demirel , also Isparta airport ( Turkish Isparta Suleyman Demirel Havalimanı ) is a Turkish airport near the town of Isparta , 4 kilometers from the place Gümüşgün located. It is operated by the state-owned DHMİ and is named after the former Turkish President Suleyman Demirel .

History and equipment

The airport was opened in 1997 and is used exclusively for civil purposes. The airport, which is classified as international, has a terminal with a capacity of 1,500,000 passengers per year and a paved runway that does not have an instrument flight landing system (ILS). The apron has a size of 220 × 100 meters and can accommodate five commercial aircraft. There is also a cargo handling building at the airport, as well as a medical emergency station and a VIP lounge in the terminal.

Connection

The city of Isparta assigned to him is about 30 kilometers away. It can be reached by taxi, private car or airport bus via trunk roads. There is a parking lot for 100 vehicles in front of the terminal.

Incidents

On November 30, 2007 the Atlasjet flight 4203 carried out with a McDonnell Douglas MD-83 crashed on the way from Istanbul-Ataturk Airport to Isparta on approach. All 57 occupants on board were killed. To date, the cause of the crash has not been clarified.
