The Denizli Çardak Airport ( IATA : DNZ , ICAO : LTAY ; Turkish Denizli Çardak Havalimanı ) is a national commercial and military airport in the Turkish province of Denizli . The airport is in the district of the small town of Çardak . Denizli-Çardak Airport is located 65 km east of the provincial capital Denizli and 5 km southeast of Çardak. With almost 650,000 passengers a year, the airport is one of the medium-sized airports in Turkey (as of 2019). It is operated by the state DHMİ . The airport was opened in 1991.
Airlines and destinations
Istanbul is the only city in Turkey that has regular flights from Denizli-Çardak. The Turkish airline Turkish Airlines flies daily to the European Istanbul Airport (IST). The airlines Anadolujet ( subsidiary of Turkish Airlines) and Pegasus Airlines also fly daily to the Asian airport Istanbul-Sabiha Gökçen (SAW). Turkish Airlines lands and takes off twice, Pegasus Airlines and Anadolujet once a day from Denizli-Çardak.
Iran Air , Meraj Air and Qeshm Airlines fly to Denizli Airport from their base in Tehran .
Ankara-Esenboğa Airport (ESB) was served by Anadolujet from 2010 to 2013 . Due to the low number of passengers, the route was discontinued. Turkish Airlines flew to its old home airport, Istanbul-Ataturk, until April 2019 .
Planned expansion into an international airport
It has been planned for a long time that the airport will become international. This should relieve the nearest airports Antalya , Izmir and Dalaman , because the maximum capacities of these airports have been reached. Since there may be delays and flight cancellations in the winter months due to thick fog and the resulting occasional delays, citizens and politicians of the city of Denizli are demanding a new airport at a different location.
