Gaia Epicus is a Norwegian power metal band from Trondheim that was founded in 2001 .

history

The origins of the band go back to 1992. On New Year's Day, Thomas Chr. Hansen, Roar Følling and Tom R. Brumoen formed the punk rock band Rått kjøtt (dt. Raw meat). Various style, name and line-up changes followed. From 1993 Thrash Metal was played under the name Execution , a few years later the style changed to Hard Rock . In 1996 the band started playing progressive metal . In 1998 they called themselves Millenium , but since this name was already taken, a year later Theater of Pain . From 2000 it became Eternal Flame , in 2001 the current band name Gaia Epicus followed . During this early phase there were no official publications, only various demo recordings were made.

2002 signed Gaia Epicus a contract with the label Sound Riot Records and brought in 2003 their debut album satrap out. In March 2005, the drummer Yngve Hanssen died in a car accident. The second album Symphony of Glory was delayed due to disputes with the label and was released in summer 2005. Then the band began a campaign against Sound Riot Records, in which they accused the label of mismanagement and non-compliance with agreements. In 2006 the album Victory , according to their own account their best album to date, was recorded in the Top Room Studios within just 14 days. Produced by the Epicus Records label , it will be released in January 2007. Damnation follows in 2008 and Dark Secrets in 2012 . Due to the frequent line-up changes, many albums and concerts were given with guest musicians.

style

The musical style of Gaia Epicus is melodic-progressive Power Metal in the style of Gamma Ray or Helloween , the lyrics deal with fantasy and history .
