The Gainfeld is a high valley with partly special alpine flora west above Bischofshofen im Pongau and at the same time a district of Bischofshofen.

It is located between Bischofshofen and the eastern foothills of the Hochkönig massif , the Mandl walls, at an average altitude of 865  m above sea level. A.

The Gainfeldtal is dominated north by beech-dominated forests over limestone (partly still quite natural), south by spruce forests over Grauwacke . The rear valley at the Kematenalm is lonely and rarely used, to the north above the moor near the Grünmaißalm is still a raised moor that is practically unaffected by anthropogenic influences. At the end of the valley it goes up towards the Hochkönig: colorful alpine meadows , debris fields and rocks characterize the picture. The Egg im Gainfeld farm was mentioned as a knightly fief of the Lords of Pongau as early as 1180. Then it fell back to the Salzburg Archdiocese and in 1304 came to the Lords of Guetrat . The Paul-Ausserleitner-Schanze is located at the eastern exit of the Gainfeld .
