Bachsfall castle ruins
The castle ruin Bachsfall , named after the Gainbach waterfall , is located in the municipality of Bischofshofen in the St. Johann im Pongau district in the state of Salzburg . The ruin is a listed building .
history
The castle was founded by the Lords of Pongau in the 12th century. When the ministerial family of Gutrat Castle received the office of district judge in Pongau in 1230 , they seem to have been sitting on the tower at Gainbachfeld. Later messages are missing. It is said that the stones from the residence were used to build the Bischofshofen cemetery chapel, which was built in 1522.
Castle ruins
On the orographically right bank of the Gainfeldbach lies the ruin, the name of which is derived from the nearby waterfall.
You can reach it after about 30 minutes if you drive to the ski jump (Gaisberggasse) in Bischofshofen and follow the signposted hiking trail from the parking lot there either via the stairs at the Gainbach waterfall or via the gentle descent to the ruins. The remaining remains of a castle wall on a castle plateau of approx. 30 × 30 m were archaeologically examined from 1983 to 1985 and uncovered and secured.
In an idealized form, there is a representation of the former castle on the house at the waterfall .
