Life

Gaius Fabius Ambustus, traditions came to the episode 358 BC. Together with Gaius Plautius Proculus to the consulate. Fabius waged war against the Tarquinians , but he was careless and suffered defeat. This was not overly dramatic, but numerous Romans (allegedly 307) were captured, brought to Tarquinii and there executed as sacrifices for the gods. Four years later, the consul Marcus Fabius Ambustus , who was perhaps a brother of the Fabius treated here, took revenge for this by killing numerous aristocratic Tarquinians in Rome after a Roman victory . 356 BC According to the Roman annalist Titus Livius, there were eight interreges to lead the consular elections, whose names the historian Friedrich Münzer considers unhistorical; including a Gaius Fabius is mentioned.
