The Cremera (also Valchetta ) is a tributary of the Tiber in the Italian region of Lazio .

geography

The Cremera arises in the Valle del Sorbo in the municipality of Formello by the confluence of the streams Fosso della Mola dei Monti and Fosso della Mola di Formello . It flows through the Valle del Sorbo in a southerly direction and turns north of the Roman district of Isola Farnese to the east into the Valle Cremera, finally flowing into the Tiber between the Roman districts of Labaro and Saxa Rubra. Its catchment area includes the northern urban area of Rome, the municipalities of Campagnano di Roma , Formello and Sacrofano . It flows through the Parco di Veio Natural Park along its entire length . Its banks are still almost completely natural and undeveloped.

history

The cremera plays a role in various ancient events, as the Etruscan city of Veji was located on a hill above the river. Most famous is the battle of the Cremera (477 BC), in which supposedly almost all male members of the Roman gens Fabia perished in the fight against Veji.
