Gaius Scribonius Curio (Consul 76 BC)
Gaius Scribonius Curio († 53 BC ) was a politician of the late Roman Republic .
The son of a senator of the same name from the Gracchian period was born in 90 BC. Chr. Tribune . 86 BC He took part in the conquest of Athens as Sulla's legate and in the following year operated in Asia Minor against Mithridates VI . He returned in 83 BC. Back to Italy with Sulla and benefited from his proscriptions . 76 BC He was consul after he withdrew his application in favor of Mamercus Aemilius Lepidus Livianus the previous year . He opposed an attempt to lift the restrictions imposed by Sulla on the tribunate and took over the province of Macedonia at the end of the year . There he fought until 72 BC. In the years up to his death in 53 BC BC Curio was a staunch opponent of Gaius Julius Caesar . He was from 60 BC at the latest. Chr. Pontifex and was considered a gifted speaker. His son of the same name went to Caesar in the late 1950s.
