Gaius Vipstanus Apronianus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gaius Vipstanus Apronianus was a Roman politician and senator of the 1st century AD.

Apronianus was full consul in 59 and proconsul in 68/69 of the province of Africa . He was also a member of the Arval Brotherhood from 57 to at least 86 .

After Galba's death on January 15, 69, one province after another declared itself in favor of the new emperor Otho , among them Apronianus in Africa. Apparently he had been appointed for the year 68/69, as Tacitus said that the province hurriedly swore allegiance to Otho, perhaps before the end of January 69.
