Galleon is a 1979 founded Irish folk band from Cork .

Band history

Galleon was founded in 1979 by five colleagues who worked in a hospital in Cork. The band's first recordings, the albums From Stern to Stern (1983), On the Crest of a Wave (1985), Anchors Aweigh (1987) and An Ocean of Folk (1991) were only released on compact cassette and during their numerous appearances marketed in Ireland , the United Kingdom and Germany (especially in the Cologne area ). A box set was released that included these albums on CD for the first time. In 1998 the album Hearts on Fire followed , which was released via Crowd Records (distributed by edel ). In addition to their live appearances, the band was also seen on television, a live concert by the band was broadcast on n-tv . They were also guests on Craig Ferguson's The Late Late Show and the Canadian show Live at 3 . In 2002 the band took a break.

In 2005 she returned with a new line-up. Andy Dunne (guitar) joined the four founding members Mick Mangan (guitar), Tim O 'Sullivan (guitar, drums, vocals), Ger Walsh (guitar, mandolin , banjo , flutes and vocals) and Declan Lynch ( bodhran , vocals and voice) and vocals), Paul Seymour (keyboards and vocals) and Johnny Campbell (bass and vocals), two other musicians were eliminated. A long-time member of the band, Mick Harte, died in 2006.

Music genre

The music style of the band is Irish Folk, whereby Galleon is not a pure cover band , as is quite common in this area. Galleon present their own songs live and on their albums. The selection is not limited to traditionals , songs by songwriters and from rock music are also performed.
