Gallos de Aguascalientes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gallos de Aguascalientes is a Mexican football club based in Aguascalientes , Aguascalientes .

history

When the Primera División 'A' was introduced in 1994 , which replaced the Segunda División in its role as the second highest division in Mexican club football , the owner of a Taquería chain in Los Angeles acquired the license to participate and set up a team in Aguascalientes, as the city had never been represented in professional football up to this point .

The newly formed Gallos ( Spanish for cocks ) ended the opening season of Primera A on the penultimate place in the table and would have secured a place in the second division for the coming season, because only the bottom of the table ( Caimanes de Tabasco ) made it to the third division had to compete. But the Gallos sold their license to the Coyotes de Saltillo and withdrew to the Segunda División, which is now only third class.

After winning the third division championship in the summer of 1998, the Gallos returned to the Primera División 'A' in a sporting way and immediately attracted attention in the 1998 Torneo Invierno (first half of the 1998/99 season) when they finished as leaders. In the subsequent Liguilla , however, they failed in the quarterfinals against Chivas Tijuana (0-0 and 0-1). The same opponent also proved to be a stumbling block for the Gallos in the repechaje of the subsequent Torneo Verano 1999 (second half of the 1998/99 season), who remained without their own goal in this comparison (this time 0-0 and 0-3).

After a disappointing 1999/00 season in which they had finished both tournaments as the bottom of the group, the Gallos recorded their greatest success ever in the Torneo Invierno 2000 and won the title with a final victory over the Reboceros de La Piedad . After a 1: 1 in front of their own audience, the Gallos won the second leg away from home with 5: 3. After the Reboceros had won the second round tournament of the 2000/01 season, it came between the two teams to the big season and promotion finals. After a 1-0 home win, the Gallos lost the second leg with 1: 4 and therefore had to play in the second division in the future. In the second half of the following 2001/02 season, the Gallos penetrated again to the semi-finals, where they failed this time with 0: 2 and 2: 3 at the later promoted San Luis FC .

Before the next 2002/03 season, the traditional club Necaxa , playing in the Primera División , moved to Aguascalientes, which permanently weakened the position of the second division Gallos. Therefore, those responsible sold the license to the Club Deportivo Guadalajara , which thus enabled its branch team Tapatío a starting place in the second division.

In 2012 efforts arose to let the Gallos start again in a professional league. Since the 2012/13 season, the revived professional team has been represented under the new name Gallos Hidrocálidos de Aguascalientes in the Tercera División , where they are currently (2016/17 season) assigned to Group XII. The new addition in the club name (Hidrocálidos) refers to the nickname of the townspeople, which is derived from the local thermal springs and which also gave the town its name (Aguas Calientes = hot water).
