Saltillo Soccer

Saltillo Soccer , also known as Coyotes de Saltillo , is a former soccer club from Saltillo , the capital of the Mexican state of Coahuila .

history

Before the 1995/96 season, the CF Monterrey acquired the license to participate in the Primera División 'A' introduced in the preseason to maintain a branch team in the second highest soccer league in Mexico , which he transplanted to Saltillo under the aforementioned name.

In the second year of their existence, the Coyotes met in the quarterfinals of the 1996 winter tournament on the previous year’s relegated arch-rivals of their “main club” Monterrey, the UANL Tigres , and defied them 1-1 in both games. However, that was enough for the Tigres, who later won both tournaments of the 1996/97 season and thus secured an immediate return to the Primera División , to advance because they had scored more points (35) than the Coyotes (24) in the league round.

The Coyotes had a similarly unfortunate end in the quarter-finals of the 1997 summer tournament, when they won the second leg with the same result after a 1-0 home defeat to Cruz Azul Hidalgo , but again due to the tied points and goals due to the fewer points scored in the regular season (26 versus 27) eliminated.

In the two competitions of the following season (1997/98), the Coyotes were eliminated in the quarterfinals and never reached the Liguillas again in the following seasons .

Before the 2001/02 season, the rivals from the Monterrey area agreed to swap their licenses. So Saltillo Soccer came under the care of the UANL Tigres and from then on appeared under the name Tigrillos Saltillo .

In the summer tournament of 2002, the second half of their first season 2001/02, the Tigrillos advanced to the final, where they played two dramatic encounters with Real San Luis and (after a 4-1 home win and a subsequent 0-3 away defeat ) only lost on penalties. At the end of the 2002/03 season, the Tigrillos were transferred to Mexico City , where they performed under the name Tigrillos Coapa . This decision on the part of the UANL Tigres formed the (temporary) end of second division football in Saltillo, which began between 1974 and 1976 with the entry of the Halcones de Saltillo into the Segunda División and was briefly continued in the 1990/91 season by the Leones de Saltillo had experienced.
