The calamine sheep fescue ( Festuca aquisgranensis ) belongs to the species group sheep fescue ( Festuca ovina agg.). It is a metallophyte and a character species of the Galmeiflora in the border triangle around Aachen (e.g. in the Schlangenberg nature reserve ) and near Paderborn . It is also described in the botanical literature as Westphalian or Aachen fescue ( Festuca ovina ssp. Guestfalica ).

The calamine sheep fescue is very similar to the hard sheep fescue ( Festuca guestifalica ). The species status and the differentiation from other Festuca guestifalica species such as Festuca pseudaquisgranensis on heavy metal sites is still unclear.
