Gammellund is a village in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein . It belongs to the municipality of Bollingstedt , Amt Arensharde and has about 800 inhabitants.

The partner village is Isling in Upper Franconia .

The name comes from Danish and means something like old forest . The Danish origin can mainly be explained by the Jutian settlement of the Schleswig Geest .

history

Gammellund was first mentioned in 1352. However, archaeological finds near the Gammellund lake suggest that the first human settlements were in the area around Gammellund as early as the Bronze Age.

During the Schleswig-Holstein uprising , the village area was also the scene of some fighting. The Battle of Idstedt (July 24th and 25th, 1850) affected Gammellund very badly. A large part of the village, especially the area around the brickworks, was destroyed.

Gammellund was awarded ten times in the competition "Our village should be more beautiful" from 1971 to 2003.

On August 1, 1976, Gammellund was incorporated into the neighboring municipality of Bollingstedt.

politics

Marc Prätorius has been the mayor since June 12, 2018. ( AWG ).

After the local elections in 2018, the Bollingstedt community council consists of 13 members. Five of these are for the AWG, four for the CDU , three for the KWB and one seat for the SSW .

coat of arms

Of particular importance for the place since was medieval water mill on the Bollingstedter Au with the expanded mill pond, probably as part of a castle should be considered. The half mill wheel in the coat of arms of Bollingstedt refers both to the mill itself and to its first verifiable owner. It also characterizes the Bollingstedt part of the municipality in that the town has recently been expanded to the north around the mill pond. The acorns and oak leaves refer to the district of Gammellund. The part of the name “gammel” means “old” and “lund” in Danish for “ forest or grove ”. Gammellund thus describes an "old forest", and this is the oak forest that still exists in the municipality today.

Economy and culture

The community has a sports club, TSV Bollingstedt-Gammellund, in which the Bundesliga professional Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker from FC Augsburg began his football career.

In Gammellund there is a forwarding agency, an inn, a carnival association (GKV), the volunteer fire brigade , the Gammellund motorbike friends as well as their own rifle guild and hunting community.

In 1992 the two sports clubs merged to form TSV Bollingstedt – Gammellund. However, each place has kept its own sports field.

Due to the proximity to the North and Baltic Seas, tourism is particularly important for the community.

Since some citizens in the Gammellund part of the municipality did not feel that they were adequately represented by the municipal council, a citizens' initiative was founded to separate the two villages. A corresponding referendum failed in November 2007.

Gammellund is a member of the Jübek-Idstedt parish and celebrated its 666th anniversary in 2018.
