Ganes is a pop trio, originally from La Val in Italy , who became known for their lyrics in Ladin . The band name goes back to mythical fairies or water mermaids (see Anguana ).

history

Ganes was founded by the sisters Elisabeth and Marlene Schuen and their cousin Maria Moling. You come from La Val in the Dolomites and are among the 30,000 or so South Tyroleans for whom Ladin is the mother tongue. Elisabeth and Marlene Schuen come from a musical family, so their father was Kapellmeister of the local brass band. The opera and lieder singer Andrè Schuen is her brother. Marlene Schuen studied violin and jazz singing, Elisabeth Schuen graduated as an opera singer and plays the violin like her sister. Maria Moling studied music at the Carinthian State Conservatory in Klagenfurt .

From 2002 Marlene Schuen was active in Hubert von Goisern's band as a singer and violinist. Elisabeth Schuen joined Maria Moling as a background singer on Hubert von Goisern's 2007 European tour of Linz. During this tour the Trio Ganes formed. From 2009 Maria Moling as well as Elisabeth and Marlene Schuen worked on their first album, which was recorded until January 2010. Rai de sorëdl ( Eng . "Sun ray") appeared in May 2010 and contained songs in Ladin.

The band's instrumentation initially consisted of a guitar, two violins and partly a piano. On their second album Mai guai (Eng. "No problems") they use drum computers in addition to percussion sounds . In 2011, Ganes worked with the Babelsberg Film Orchestra for a bonus edition of Mai guai ; the concert can be heard on the double album Mai guai . In 2012 the CD Parores & Neores was also released as a double album. In addition to the Ladin tracks, which seemed a bit darker and more atmospheric on this album, there were some versions sung in English and radio edits . In 2013 Ganes performed at the festival 28 Jahre Songs on a summer evening at Kloster Banz.

The fourth studio album by Ganes was released in 2014 under the title Caprize . It was recorded in the studios of the Berlin radio station Nalepastraße and produced by Alex Sprave. Most of the texts were again written in Ladin, but Bang Bang was also an English-language title. A video clip was shot for the song Bang bang Bun . In autumn 2014 Ganes were on tour with Caprize through Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. In total, Ganes have already given over 300 concerts in several countries and now live between Munich, Berlin, Vorarlberg and La Val.

The title of the fifth album is An cunta che ( Eng . "One tells oneself ..."). It was published in 2016 and is inspired by the Dolomite legends that Ganes knew from childhood. As with the Caprize album , Ganes mix acoustic instruments with electronic elements. At the turn of the year 2017/2018 it was announced that Maria Moling is leaving the group to devote himself to her own projects. She was replaced by Natalie Plöger (double bass, vocals), member of the Elaiza group .
