Andrè Schuen

Andrè Schuen (born 1984 in La Val , South Tyrol ) is an Italian opera, concert and lied singer ( baritone ).

Life

Andrè Schuen comes from a musical family of Ladin origin. His sisters Elisabeth and Marlene Schuen are members of the local culture, the Ganes pop trio . He studied solo singing with Horiana Brănişteanu at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg , as well as song and oratorio with Wolfgang Holzmair . He also attended a number of master classes, among others with Sir Thomas Allen , Brigitte Fassbaender , Marjana Lipovsek and Olaf Bär . In 2009 Schuen was a prizewinner at the International Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg and won first prize in the Walter and Charlotte Hamel Foundation's singing competition. In 2010 he graduated with distinction and was awarded the Hanna Ludwig Prize and the Lilli Lehmann Medal .

The singer came in 2006 for the first time at the Salzburg Festival on, took over in January 2008 at the House for Mozart the role of lackeys in Ariadne auf Naxos and was finally on Mozarteum and several smaller theaters in Germany and Austria in the title role of Le nozze di Figaro to see and hear. In 2009 he was a guest at the Salzburg Festival in Al gran sole carico d'amore by Luigi Nono , and in 2010 he was accepted into the Festival's Young Singers Project . At the Easter Festival he took on smaller roles in Salome (2011) and Carmen (2012), both conducted by Sir Simon Rattle , at the Summer Festival 2011 he appeared in Macbeth , staged by Peter Stein and conducted by Riccardo Muti , and sang in concert in Stravinsky's Rossignol under Ivor Bolton .

From September 2010 to June 2014, Schuen was a member of the Graz Opera , where he was successful in the operatic roles of Jeletzky , Masetto , Belcore , Ford and the Heerrufers , and most recently as Papageno . In Graz he expanded his range of roles to include the operetta (as Gasparone ) and the musical (in Der Mann von La Mancha ).

At the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp and Ghent he appeared in the 2011/12 season as Don Alvaro in Rossini's Il viaggio a Reims . At the Opéra National de Montpellier , Andrè Schuen sang the title role in Don Giovanni in June 2013 and Guglielmo in Così fan tutte in December of the same year . In 2015 he made his debut as Ping in Puccini's Turandot at the Bregenz Festival .

Andrè Schuen is a popular oratorio singer. In addition to numerous masses and cantatas, he has sung the bass parts in Bach's Christmas Oratorio , St. John Passion and the B minor Mass , Haydn's Creation , Handel's Messiah , Mozart's Requiem , in Brahms' German Requiem and Mendelssohn's Walpurgis Night , most recently Christ in Bach's St. Matthew Passion (with Philippe Herreweghe at the podium) and the baritone solos in Fauré's Requiem with the Berliner Philharmoniker under Sir Simon Rattle in Madrid and Barcelona .

In the song area he works with the pianist Daniel Heide . His repertoire includes Schubert's Winterreise , Schumann's Dichterliebe and his Liederkreis op. 24 , Wolf's Harper-Gesänge , Ibert's Don Quichotte-Lieder , Martin's Jedermann-Monologe and selected songs from other eras. In 2009 he premiered Herbert Grassl's song cycle … soon I'm never cold for voice and percussion based on texts by Norbert C. Kaser .

In 2014 he made his debut with recitals in London's Wigmore Hall and in the Vienna Konzerthaus with Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen in Lille, and as Alphonse XI in a French-language production of La favorite at the Graz Opera House . In the concert da Ponte cycle of the Theater an der Wien in March 2014 with the Concentus Musicus under the direction of Nikolaus Harnoncourt , Schuen sang three main roles - Figaro , Don Giovanni and Guglielmo .

In 2015 he sang the role of Chancellor Ping in Turandot at the Bregenz Festival .

From the 2015/16 season to 2017/18, Andrè Schuen was an artist in the “Junge Wilde” series at the Dortmund Konzerthaus.
