The Gangrel dam (also RS Sagar dam ) is located on the upper reaches of the Mahanadi 10 km south of the city of Dhamtari in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh .
The dam was completed in 1979. The dam consists of a 1300 m long earth embankment dam and an adjoining gravity dam . The total length is 1830 m. The Ravishankar reservoir covers an area of up to 95.4 km².
The dam is used to irrigate the agricultural areas in the districts of Dhamtari , Raipur and Durg and thus enables two harvests a year.
