Garden Without Birds ( Japanese 小鳥 た ち の い な い 花園 , Kotori-tachi no inai hanazono ) is a Japanese short film by Akira Nobi .

Six people meet for a drug party. The nameless friends are a painter who has been blocked since he drew a dead bird, his girlfriend, a transvestite , his girlfriend and an S / M couple. After a short warm-up period, a jar of pills is passed around. The party turns out of joint when the painter kills himself by painting the shower with blood. The party guests are now starting to kill each other. In the end, only one woman survives who takes one last pill and now sees flowers growing from the corpses of the other party guests.

The film shows current events in black and white , while drug trips and memories of the party guests are shown in color. For the splatter effects was Gō Suzuki responsible.

According to the director, the film was shot in December 1992. A cinema premiere took place in the cinema Nakano Musashino Hall on February 1, 1997 together with Diamond Moon by the same director.
The Dutch label Shock (formerly Japan Shock) first released the film in Europe in 2010. It was the first DVD release worldwide. The film was dubbed in German and a making-of and the short film Diamond Moon were added. According to the cover information, the German-language publication is intended for sale in Austria and was indexed in Germany on March 31, 2010 .
