Garrett Richard Wang (pronounced "Wong", Chinese  王 以 瞻 , Pinyin Wáng Yǐzhān ; born December 15, 1968 in Riverside , California ) is an American actor .

Life

Wang traveled extensively in the United States from an early age due to his father's changing jobs. After graduating from high school in Memphis , Tennessee , his family moved permanently to Los Angeles . There he studied Asian culture at UCLA . However, his professor Jenny Rountree encouraged him to pursue his acting talent.

In 1997 he was voted one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World by People Magazine . Four years later, E! counted among the 20 coolest bachelors .

Career

Prior to his film career, Wang appeared in several commercials and acted in theater . In 1994 he got a guest role in the pilot of the television series American Girl . In the same year he had his breakthrough with the role of Harry Kim in the series Star Trek: Voyager .

He has also appeared in many independent films, including Angry Cafe (1995), Hundred Percent (1998), Ivory Towers (1998) and Demon Island (2002). In 1999 he starred in the comedy The Auteur Theory . In 2005 he got the role of "Chow-Ping Yen" in the western miniseries Into the West .

In 2007 he played the character Garan in the fan film Star Trek: Of Gods and Men . Two years later he appeared in the film Why am I doing this? With.
