Gerhard Rehberg

Gerhard Walter Rehberg (born January 8, 1936 in Powunden / East Prussia (today Chrabrowo )) is a German politician and football official.

Between 1952 and 1954 Rehberg received training as a mountain apprentice. After his professional development in mining through the apprenticeship to the Hauer , he qualified in 1966 at the Bergschule Essen to Steiger . As such, he worked at the Westerholt colliery until 1992.

Rehberg was one from 1975 to 2004 as a member of the SPD faction of the City Council in Gelsenkirchen and was most recently chairman of the sports and the real estate committee. From 1979 to 2004 he was honorary mayor of the city of Gelsenkirchen and in this capacity first deputy of the mayor in the management of the council meetings and in the representation. From 1994 to 2007 he was also chairman of the board of FC Schalke 04 .

On the occasion of the quarter-final draw of the Champions League 2012/13 , in which Schalke 04 met the reigning Turkish champions Galatasaray Istanbul , it became known that Rehberg, in addition to his honorary presidency at Schalke, also has a club membership at Galatasaray. He himself said that Galatasaray is one of the two teams that he sees himself as a fan. He received membership because of a close friendship he had with the late Galatasaray President Özhan Canaydın . During the presidency of Canaydın Rehberg received the club membership.

He was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit and the Cross of Merit 1st Class.

Rehberg is married and has one son.
