Garry Bushell (born May 13, 1955 in Woolwich ) is an English journalist , television presenter and columnist .

Bushell, very active in socialist organizations since his student days, began his journalistic career with the Socialist Worker before he switched to the music magazine Sounds in the early 1980s . As a member of the band The Pink Tents , which later became part of The Gonads , he was predestined to be an expert on punk . In this role he became a self-appointed spokesman and promoter of the emerging Oi! -Scene, including as manager of Cockney Rejects and The Blood .

Bushell also presented the groundbreaking sampler Oi! The Album (1980), Strength Thru Oi! and Carry on Oi !! (both 1981) together, on which the first bands of this genre were represented.

From 1985 Bushell worked for various tabloid magazines and ended up as an editor at the Sun with his own column. He also appeared on TV in the 1990s with his own show. The collaboration with the Sun lasted until 2001, when Bushell's crime thriller The Face was reprinted as a serial novel by competition from the Daily Star , where Bushell had previously been employed. He is currently writing a television column for the Sunday newspaper The People .

In recent years Bushell, who describes himself as "very patriotic", has sought the light of the public several times with political actions. He is currently considering running in 2008 as a candidate for the right-wing nationalist English Democrats , whom he has supported for years, in the London mayoral election. Because of his commitment Bushell was attacked from left-wing circles, although he has always spoken out against racism and xenophobia and in 1981 was a victim of neo-Nazis himself. His provocative remarks about homosexuals also led Bushell to accuse him of homophobia .

The band The Exploited , which is also on the sampler Oi! The album was represented, attacked him later in her song Wankers or Singalongabushell with the words: “Bushell said that punk was dead. He's two faced, he's off his head. "
