Gary Haugen
Gary A. Haugen (* 1963 or 1964) is the founder, former president and chief executive officer (CEO) of International Justice Mission , an international human rights organization that campaigns for the rights of victims of slavery , human trafficking , forced prostitution and other forms of violent repression worldwide begins.

Life
Haugen grew up in Sacramento as the youngest of six children . Even in elementary school he wanted to become a lawyer and, influenced by the biography of Martin Luther King , became interested in the American civil rights movement . In 1981 he began studying Social Studies at Harvard , from which he graduated with a BA . After a stay in South Africa , during which he worked as an intern with the National Initiative for Reconciliation , a network of Christians, Christian communities and organizations to end apartheid , he returned to the USA in 1986 to study law at the University of Chicago . There he obtained the Juris Doctor .
After various activities, including at the Ministry of Justice , the United Nations appointed him chief investigator for the genocide in Rwanda . Under the influence of his experiences in Rwanda, he founded the human rights organization International Justice Mission (IJM) in 1997 . In 2007 he received the Prison Fellowship's annual William Wilberforce Award for his work . In 2012, the United States Department of State presented him with the Trafficking In Persons Report Hero Award , the Department's highest honor for combating human trafficking.
Haugen is an evangelical Christian . He lives with his family near Washington, DC
