Roger Rabbit

Wolf is best known for the series of comedic crime novels starring the now famous Roger Rabbit, a cartoon character who lives in an alternate universe where toons and humans coexist. The series begins with the novel Who Censored Roger Rabbit? (1981), that was the basis of the film Bad Game with Roger Rabbit (1988). The series was plugged in 1991 with Who PPP-Plugged Roger Rabbit? and 2013 with Who Wacked Roger Rabbit? continued. These two books were not canonical of the original book and had more in common with the hit Disney film.

Wolf filed a lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company in 2001 . Wolf claimed he was owed royalties based on the value of "gross receipts" and merchandising sales. In 2002, the court ruled that these related only to actual cash receipts that Disney had taken and denied Wolf's claim. In its January 2004 ruling, the California appeals court disagreed, finding that Wolf's expert testimony about the common use of "gross revenue" in the entertainment business might support a broader reading of the term. The ruling overturned the court's order in favor of Disney and remitted the case for further trial. At a March 2005 hearing, Wolf estimated he was owed $ 7 million. Disney's attorneys not only denied the claim, but also said that Wolf actually owed Disney $ 500,000 to $ 1 million because an accounting error was found in the preparation of the lawsuit. Wolf won the ruling in July 2005 and received damages estimated at between $ 180,000 and $ 400,000.
