Gary von Waaden

Gary von Waaden (* 1961 in San José ) is a former American / German basketball player . The 2.10 meter tall indoor player played for Bamberg, Charlottenburg and Ulm in the basketball league .

career

Von Waaden played basketball at the University of Portland and then embarked on a professional career. From 1984 to 1987 he played for FC Bamberg in the basketball league , from 1987 to 1989 he strengthened the league competitor DTV Charlottenburg in Berlin , but returned to Bamberg in 1989, where he played again for two years.

Von Waaden moved within the Bundesliga to SSV Ulm , with whom he won the DBB Cup in February 1996 and scored the decisive basket in the final seconds of the final against Bayer Leverkusen. In 1997 he left Ulm, was in the service of the second division Paderborn in 1997/98 and from 1998 to 2000 in the squad of SpVgg Rattelsdorf (also 2nd Bundesliga).

In Germany's highest class, he scored a total of 2552 points.

After his competitive sports career, von Waaden initially stayed in Germany and worked as a fitness trainer and as an employee in the mail order business. He remained loyal to basketball as a coach (including at BBC Coburg , in Rattelsdorf and the women's team at BG Litzendorf) and played in the senior teams of TSV Breitengüßbach. In 2011 he became German champion in the age group over 45 with the TSV. In 2014 he and his family moved to California , United States .

His son Dominick became a German junior national player.
