Gasolin ' was a Danish rock band from Copenhagen .

The band was founded by Kim Larsen (October 23, 1945 - September 30, 2018), Franz Beckerlee (* August 15, 1942) and Wili Jønsson (* March 27, 1942) in 1969. The first drummer of the group - Bjørn Uglebjerg (March 21, 1948 - June 21, 1994) - was replaced in 1971 by Søren Berlev (born May 4, 1950). In this formation the band advanced to the most popular rock group in Denmark in the 1970s until today.

Music genre

Her first singles in English in 1970 - "Silky Sally" (Smukke Linda), "Child of Institution" and "Johnny The Jackpot" flopped. Success only came when the band released their first album "Gasolin '" in 1971 in Danish. Later attempts to "gain a foothold" internationally with English texts were not very successful either.

Between 1972 and 1978 Gasolin 'was the most popular rock band in Denmark; During this time, Danish classics such as the albums "Gasolin '3" (1973) and "Efter endnu en dag" (1976) were created under producer Roy Thomas Baker (including Queen). After the rock band gave their farewell concert in Malmö in August 1978 , they broke up in the autumn of 1978; however, isolated joint live appearances by the band are also known from the following years. After the breakup, Kim Larsen was particularly successful in his solo career and with other bands: his album "Midt om natten" (1983) is Denmark's best-selling ever.

In 2006, a documentary about the former rock group produced by Anders Østergaard became Denmark's most successful documentary. Before that, the CD editions "Rabalderstræde Forever" (1991) and "The Black Box" (2003) had become a big seller in Denmark.

The first album cover and a single (Langebro / Lilly-Lilly) were designed by the Belgian comic artist Hergé.
