Gaspar Lax

Gaspar Lax (* 1487 in Sariñena ; † February 23, 1560 in Saragossa ) was a Spanish mathematician, logician and philosopher who worked in Paris .

Lax studied the liberal arts and theology in Saragossa. He taught at the Collège de Calvi in ​​Paris in 1507/08 and then at the Collège de Montaigu, where he was a student of John Mair (or Major). From 1517 he was back at the Collège de Calvi. In Paris he was known as the prince of the sophists . He taught in Paris until 1523 and then returned to Spain - at that time foreigners had to leave Paris universities. In 1525 he taught mathematics and philosophy in Saragossa and stayed there until his death. At times he was vice chancellor and rector of the university.
