The Bartow Church is a late Gothic church building in Bartow in the Mecklenburg Lake District . It belongs to the parish Daberkow in the parish composite Hohenmocker -Daberkow in the provost Demmin in the Pomeranian Protestant parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany . Until 2012 she belonged to the Demmin parish of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church .

history

The church was first mentioned in 1287 when it was assigned to the Verchen monastery . In 1308 she was placed under the Archdeaconate of Stolpe . Until the introduction of the Reformation in Pomerania in 1535, it was its own parish church, after which it was subordinated to the Daberkow church as a subsidiary church. In 1582 a church visit was carried out. Between 1570 and 1584, two church bells and a tower clock were probably purchased. In 1617 the incumbent pastor had the church repaired and the tower and cemetery wall repaired for 61 thalers. During the Thirty Years War the church served as a stable for horses in 1627. In the 18th century, the church was given its current floor plan through additions.

In 1957 the church was restored and a heated winter church was set up in the former sacristy. The plastering work on the outside surfaces was completed in 1976. Another renovation of the church was carried out in 2003.

architecture

The church was built around the end of the 14th to the beginning of the 15th century on a rectangular floor plan made of field stone and brick over an older building from the 13th century. The east and west gables are divided by panels and are made entirely of brick. From 1742 to 1748, two transept-like additions were added to the north and south sides for the patronage boxes, so that the church, which is now completely plastered, has a cruciform floor plan.

In the 16th century the square west tower was added, which has an octagonal top with a pointed helmet at the level of the bells . The height of the planked tower is 32 meters. These were renewed in 1886 when the tower was covered with slate.

There is a clock on the south side of the tower, documented since 1631. The tower clock , which was probably acquired in the second half of the 16th century, is said to have been temporarily in Völschow during the Thirty Years' War . Several Roman numerals are upside down on its dial .

Interior

The eastern part is separated from the rest of the church by the pulpit altar and the glazed walls that adjoin it. The altar, partition walls, stalls and gallery date from the Baroque period in the mid-18th century.

Bells

Of the two bells that can be traced back to 1634 and were probably cast in the 16th century, one was given up as armaments during the First World War . In 1924 it was replaced by a new bell. The bell has been powered electrically since 2003.

organ

The organ was built in the workshop of Barnim Grüneberg in Stettin in 1899 and is his opus 418. In 2007/08 it was repaired by Johann-Gottfried Schmidt. The instrument has eleven registers , divided into two manuals and a pedal , behind a neo-Gothic prospect .
