Gaston Waringhien

Gaston Waringhien (born July 20, 1901 in Lille ; † December 20, 1991 ) was a French linguist ( Agrégé ) and religious historian .

In the Esperanto language community he is known as the co-author of the relevant Esperanto grammar and as the initiator of the most important monolingual dictionary in Esperanto, the Plena Ilustrita Vortaro . In 1948 he published the letters of the founder of the language, Ludwik Lejzer Zamenhof, with comments. He also wrote a variety of articles and essays on the literature and history of this language.
