Juggler Festival Attendorn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Juggler Festival is a music and cabaret festival that has been held annually in Attendorn in the Sauerland since 1988 .

history

The juggler festival goes back to an initiative of the youth center Attendorn and two local juggling and clowning groups, which held performances for one day on a makeshift stage on the town's market square in the summer of 1988. The only artists booked were the clowns Jordy & Gerome . In the next few years the participation grew steadily, from 1990 the first band appearances at the cabaret event and sponsors began to get involved. In 1992 the newly founded cultural office took over the organization, which enabled a further expansion of the activities. In the course of the 1990s, the small children's festival became a festival that takes place in central squares in the city center with several stages and in the pedestrian zone offers a children's play street supported by volunteers.

Since the year 2000, nationally known musicians such as Gregor Meyle , Gentleman or Seeed have regularly come to Attendorn . In addition, some unknown bands from the surrounding area continue to play. In the field of cabaret numerous international artists made guest appearances at the juggler festival, with the cabaret artist Lioba Albus in her role as Mia Mittelkötter, a native of Attendorn, too.

The catchment area of the festival expanded continuously. In 2005, more than 20,000 visitors were registered for the first time. After a rainy and therefore low-visitor event weekend in 2011, the juggler's festival was on the brink for financial reasons, but could be maintained through donations and higher donations from the city and sponsors. Due to the corona pandemic , the 2020 juggler festival had to be canceled.

The program is divided into four stages. The main stage for cabaret is located on the Alter Markt. The stage at the Breiten Techt has been part of the cabaret program since 1992, while the Schüldernhof mainly accommodates the children's program. There are other games on offer in the children's quarter between the Sparkasse car park and the parish church. Young artists and the open stage area can be found on the church square.
