The house to the horse in the cradle

The Haus zum Gaul in der Wiege is a listed building in the Upper Swabian town of Memmingen . It is located in the ensemble-protected area of the Stauferstadt on Kalchstrasse . The eponymous painting on the outer facade is one of the so-called seven Memmingen landmarks .

The four-story house has three axes and its core dates from the 15th century; it has a hipped roof and a dwelling . The three-sided bay window begins on the first floor and extends up to the third floor. The arched portal is framed by pilasters and entablature and dates from around 1700. The skylights are decorated with bars made of bars with garlands from the beginning of the 19th century, and the oak doors come from the same period. The passage on the ground floor is divided into six sections with a three-part groined vault from the 15th century. The rooms to the east were formerly a series of five and a half bays of cross-ribbed vaults , but the ribs are only preserved in the three north bays. Modern partition walls were put in place. In the basement there is a barrel-vaulted hall, which rests on a square central pillar. A secret staircase, which can be entered through a closet, runs between the first and second floors. The stairwell between the second and third floor runs on three sides. The railing consists of slender wooden balusters from the 18th century. A room with a curved frame stucco has been preserved on the second floor.

At the lower end of the bay window, a painting is a horse in the cradle, that the forecast with the same name refers.
