The Gauliga Wartheland 1940/41 was the first season of the Gauliga Wartheland of the professional football department . German teams from occupied western Poland played in it, which after the attack on Poland had been incorporated into the German Reich as Reichsgau Wartheland in violation of international law . All Polish clubs in the region were banned with the establishment of the German administration, only Germans were allowed to participate in organized sports. The Wartheland sports area, newly established on January 1, 1940, was only able to host one cup round in the first season. The ad hoc founded German-Völkisch associations (mostly military associations) took part in this. In the final, LSV Posen prevailed against TSG Litzmannstadt in extra time and thus qualified for the German soccer championship 1940/41 . In this, however, the Poznan were already eliminated in the Ostland qualification by drawing lots against Prussia Danzig after the first leg ended 2-2 and the second leg was canceled.
