Gavnø is a 575 hectare large Danish island on the edge of Smålandsfarvandet ( German Smålandshavet ) between Karrebæk Fjord and Krageholm Strøm at the Karrebæksminder bay located and has 35 inhabitants (1 January 2020). The island is known for the Rococo castle of the same name on the east coast of the island. There the island is connected to Sjælland by a bridge .
The island belongs to the parish municipality ( Danish : Sogn ) Vejlo Sogn , which belonged to Harde Hammer Herred in what was then Præstø Amt until 1970 , then to Næstved Kommune in what was then Vestsjællands Amt , which became part of the “new” Næstved with the municipal reform on January 1, 2007 Municipality in the Sjælland region.
