Gavriil Loginowitsch Pribylov
Gavriil Loginowitsch Pribylov also Pribilof ( Russian Гавриил Логинович Прибылов , scientific transliteration Gavriil Loginovič Pribylov ; * unknown; † 1796 ) was a Russian navigator.
From 1781 to 1786 Pribilof was the captain of the "Swjatoi Georgi", which belonged to the Russian-American company . In 1788 he explored the Bering Sea and discovered the islands of St. George and St. Paul north of the Aleutian Islands . The archipelago was named Pribilof Islands in his honor in 1789 .
