( Lönnberg , 1895)

The banded ornamental female ( Aphyosemion bivittatum ) is a beautifully colored representative of the beautiful male . Its home is in the waters of Nigeria and Cameroon .

features

The animals reach a length of approx. 5 cm; the males stand out because of their pointed anus and dorsal fins .

attitude

The banded fish is a mostly peaceful fish that can be socialized well, there are often harmless fights between the males of the species, but these can degenerate into deadly fights in aquariums that are too small. Keeping several males in an aquarium is therefore not without risk.

Sufficient hiding places should also be provided in the aquarium for females that are mature enough to spawn, as the males sometimes harass them quite brutally. Like all ornamental marvels, the animals thrive best in soft, slightly acidic water.
