Building Schloßstraße 17
The building Schloßstraße 17 with the Café Prag in Schwerin , district Altstadt , Schloßstraße 17, corner Puschkinstraße 64, diagonally opposite the State Chancellery , is a monument in Schwerin .
history
The four-storey historicizing residential and commercial building from 1909 with the high and distinctive stepped gable facing Puschkinstrasse and the two-storey bay window on the corner was built for Betty Krefft according to plans by the builder Ludwig Clewe by the Clewe construction company. The arched windows and the entrance also determine the design. In addition to the catering on the ground floor, there were seven apartments in the house. In 1990 and 1994 the building was renovated.
The cafe
In 1755 Johann Gottlob Hering was appointed court confectioner. His pastry shop and café in a baroque half-timbered house changed hands several times until Carl Friedrich Leopold Krefft took over the house in Schwerin in 1791 . Five generations of the family ran the C. Krefft company , at times also as court confectioners. Betty Krefft, who ran the house from 1899 to 1919, commissioned the new building from 1909. In 1936 Carl Krefft sold the building to the country. The café was continued by the previous master confectioner, Reuter.
In 1948 it was called Café Intourist , in 1952 HO operating facility Einheit , from 1958 Café Einheit and since 1959 Restaurant Café Prague. This is illustrated by the painted Charles Bridge and the Hradschin in Prague on the front . Only here was there Czech beer in Schwerin. The pictures of the Krefft family can be seen in the café.
After the fall of the Wall , a GmbH took over the café and Wolfgang Hildebrandt ran the café; currently (since 2018) Margrit Hildebrand and son Thomas Hildebrand.
