Rock mechanics
Rock Mechanics (including rock mechanics ) is the part of Geotechnical Engineering , which deals with the behavior of rock masses in artificial structures ( buildings and their foundations, tunnels , cavities in mining deals).
Rock mechanics is a neighboring discipline of soil mechanics (see also earthworks and foundation engineering ), its practical application is cavity and rock construction .
At universities , rock mechanics is mostly represented by geotechnical institutes, in specialist groups within the framework of applied geology or together with tunneling . There are also technical cross-connections to technical mechanics , strength theory and structural engineering .
